In the holocaust between 50,000 and 55,000 Jews were deported from Berlin to extermination camps and ghettos where nearly all of them were murdered. In Berlin, most of them were detained in three large collection camps in Mitte, Wedding and Moabit in 1941 and 1942. From there they were taken to one of the deportation sites. Grunewald station and Anhalter station were two of them. However, at least 30,000 were deported from Moabit goods railway station.
From the synagoge in Levetzowstrasse to Moabit deportation station the route was approx. 2 km long. It should be marked as an example for all the further routes known in Berlin.
