The “Ihr letzter Weg” (Their Last Journey) network was established in 2018. Their principle purpose is to keep the memories of the more than 50,000 Jews deported in Berlin alone. Their last journey led them from the collection camp to the deportation station to extermination camps and ghettos where the Nazis murdered nearly all of them.
From Moabit goods station more than half of the Berlin Jews were deported. Most of them were collected in synagogue in Levetzowstrasse that formerly was their place of warship. In groups of a few hundred persons up to thousands of them they marched right across the neighbourhood during the day, so anyone could see.
It is our aim to mark this route permanently as an example for all of the deportation walks. Meanwhile the network members joined the “Sie waren Nachbarn” society who had set up the network for further support several years ago.
